University of BiałystokAbstract
The aim of the following paper is to examine Anna Brzezińska’s Wody głębokie jak niebo—a collection of short stories set in a fantastic world resembling Renaissance Italy. The paper will, first of all, present Brzezińska’s work as being representative of the sub-genre of fairytale fantasy. Secondly, it will investigate how the interplay of history, religion, and magic developed in the collection affects the shape of Brzezińska’s imaginary world. Thirdly, it will analyze the theme of female empowerment, which reappears in subsequent stories.Schlagworte:
