Classification of Learners’ Mistakes as a Basis of Control Functions Realization within the Communicative Approach to Teaching English

Abstract
The article validates practicability of the analysis of typical language and speech mistakes made
by learners of the English language. The author defines the concept of speech irregularities,
gives several classifications, describes their functions, emphasizes logical fallacies and
delusions. They may be explicit signs of the underdevelopment of logical thinking. The author
underlines the necessity to accomplish control functions aiming at launching mechanisms of
self-control, self-check and reflection.
