The aim of this article is to discuss the phenomenon of writing skill in the process of foreign
language learning. In the first part of the article the Author tries to describe the notion of
writing in the communication. This paper is based not only on the theoretical considerations
about the problem of writing at the advanced level but also contains conclusions drawn from
the action research. She tries to show and to explain the status of the writing skill in German. In
the second part the paper presents the results of a quantitative-qualitative study made among
students of Applied Linguistics who learn German as a foreign language.
