The Gospel Book in the Church-Slavonic tradition

Abstract

The article presents the place of the Gospel Book in the liturgical life of the Orthodox Church. It is considered to be an icon of Christ and is venerated in the same manner as an icon. For example, the Gospel Book rests on the center of the Holy Table (Altar); it is carried in procession at specific times, accompanied by candles; after reading from the Gospel, the priest blesses the faithful with it.
