Abstract

This article discusses different research approaches to the literariness of narrative role-playing game manuals. Considering the nature of the manual, this research is specifically concerned with game scripts, ranging from their evolution as a literary genre through their story structure. Some researchers argue that game scripts can be deemed a new literary genre, while others treat them as game manuals. According to another approach, the entire manual for the narrative role-playing game is a literary work. The author believes that regardless of certain literary elements, these manuals have a primarily utilitarian function. The literariness goes beyond the textbook and begins with the game session.
