Abstract
This article discusses Zbigniew Herbert's attitude to Catholicism during the 1940s. The fledgling poet was then in a period of intense intellectual and religious enquiry. He began collaborating with Catholic magazines, attempting to publish his poetic and journalistic texts. In his correspondence he discussed with various other authors the ideaological attractiveness of preconciliar Catholicism, at the time the most serious counterproposal to the Marxist ideology.
