Abstrakt

The article presents and characterizes the part of national and foreign lexis included in Mrongovius’s German-Polish dictionary that does not function in the contemporary Polish language. The author believes that the reason for a large number of forgotten lexical items is not only an educational and practical profile of the dictionary but also transformations in the lexical system of the Polish language occurring in the 19th century. The author pays particular attention to numerous lexicon words that are present in the dictionary but not active in the live language.
