The analysis of only a part of lexis/vocabulary of foreign origin registered in a Polish part of the Mrongoviusz German-Polish dictionary from the middle of the XIX century (letters: G, L, Z) proves that already at that time Polish language vocabulary was international to a great extent. Moreover, it further proves that despite easy assimilation of borrowings from various sources into a Polish language, their presence in Polish speech is in many cases temporary. Vocabulary richness of the Mrongoviusz dictionary is an argument sufficient to prove that bilingual dictionaries from different epochs of Polish language development are an interesting subject of historical and linguistic research.
