Abstrakt

The aim of this article is an attempt to answer questions regarding divergences in associations occurring amongst different social groups, and the way of translating a particular linguistic worldview or, in other words, a way of establishing connotative equivalence in the target text. Deliberations on connotative equivalence in the light of the theory of linguistic worldview focus mainly on problems occurring during the process of translation of any text. The article presents Humboldt, Sapir, Whorf, De Courtenay, Grzegorczykowa, Maćkiewicz and Tokarski’s views on different linguistic worldview. From these views, a conclusion is drawn that particular associations within different social groups are caused by different perspectives on language. Further deliberations focus particularly on the connotative meanings of words and their relation to linguistic worldviews. Amongst those cited herein are Wierzbicka, Leontiew, Lebda, Nida, Taber, Armstrong, and Devlin. Subsequently, deliberations concentrate on problems occurring during the translation process, especially those problems to do with referential synonyms and words which are very similar as far as the denotative meaning of the word is concerned. This article presents the tools used by the translator in the process of translation, and in the establishment of connotative equivalence of the target text. Final deliberations focus on the structure and the role of associative dictionaries that are applicable mainly to the creation of such target text and which have identical associations to the original.
