Abstract

The article concerns the problem of placing abbreviations in language system. A preliminary study of Polish language grammar as well as linguistic studies devoted to abbreviations proved that linguists do not take a definite stand on the place of abbreviation in language system. That being so, numerous problems of interpretation arise, hence the demand for the reassessment of existing findings and on the basis of paleographical methods the development of system of linguistic terminology which concerns abbreviations.
