Abstrakt

The article concerns borrowings from Russian in Stefan Żeromski's Przedwiośnie ("Early Spring"). They include quotations /original parenthetic remarks/, better assimilated past units /chandra, knut, sołdat, rubaszka/ as well as more recent ones . They play different artistic roles in the novel , i.e. they portray characters and the environment, and introduce the atmosphere of revolutionary menace. Sometimes, they intensify emotions and feelings by their very strangeness, and sometimes they just name other realities of the existence.
