Religious vocabulary in russian papers and the problem of linguistic correctness

Abstract

In recent times religious vocabulary often appears in contemporary Russian newspapers and magazines. Text writers use this vocabulary to achieve a special effect, for emphasis or color. Biblical phrases achieve new metaphorical meaning that has nothing to do with original words. They just become a source of irony, a negative assessment of the person or the situation described. The above process shows cultural decline in Russian speech and writing.
